All these scenes revolve around the theme of acceptance as shown at the end of the film when Muriel is talking to Bill. In this scene Muriel shows herself as a strong grown female who knows what she wants in her life. Muriel finally accepts her treacherous past of lies and deceit by confronting it with Bill symbolising personal growth. Muriels approach to marriage and love is equivalent to that of a six-year-old girl.
